Business Scope

The center aims to develop research in various areas including clinical medicine and case collection, microbial library, animal and cell model experiments, molecular biology experiments, microbiological experiments and microbial cultivation, and bioinformatics analysis. It also collaborates closely with the Genomic Core Facility to achieve the following missions:

  • To cultivate an interdisciplinary microbial research team: Integration of existing microbial research personnel from various departments within the university, establishing task groups, and enhancing the cultivation of microbial research talents required in various professional fields to achieve the goal of interdisciplinary research collaboration.
  • Establishing a collaborative platform for industry-academia-research in microbiology: Leveraging both internal and external research resources, connecting with existing research centers at the university, including the Genomic Core Facility, Center for Excellence in Tumor Deterioration Research, Center for Brain Science, Center for Aging and Health Research, and expanding collaborations with affiliated hospitals, as well as national medical centers like National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, National Taiwan University Hospital, and Mackay Memorial Hospital, to enhance research efficiency. Additionally, integrating with academic programs to expand the center's scope from research and development to education and training, fostering the development of more talent. With the support of national-level genomic core facilities and collaboration with national research institutions such as the National Health Research Institutes and Academia Sinica, the center is committed to basic and clinical research related to microbiology, physiology, and diseases. It aims to develop strategies like microbial biomarkers based on a solid academic research foundation, translating academic research into tangible benefits in practical applications.
  • Seeking large-scale research projects: The center will integrate the university's strong research teams and strive to secure the execution of large-scale national research projects. These projects may include initiatives such as the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program, the Ministry of Science and Technology's Microbiome Project, the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Industry-Academia Research and Value Creation Program, as well as precision medicine and health-related big data projects from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Health Research Institutes. This approach aims to enhance the center's tangible national and societal impact.
  • Collaboration with internationally renowned microbiome research centers: The center will establish an advisory committee and invite internationally renowned experts and scholars to serve as members. Additionally, it will regularly organize international symposia and conferences related to microbiome research. These events will provide opportunities for researchers to exchange ideas and collaborate with their counterparts from other countries, thereby enhancing research capabilities.
  • Leading microbiome research in the Asia-Pacific region: The vision of this research center is to become a leading microbiome research institution in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to establish an Asia-Pacific Microbiome Alliance by collaborating with regional microbiome research organizations. This alliance will focus on integrating and sharing interdisciplinary resources to enhance international cooperation in microbiome research.
